Results in AMP Carousel Can Also Appear in Regular Google Search Results

If you have been concerned about your AMP pages being buried far along to the right in an AMP carousel, and potentially missing out on traffic, you shouldn’t be too concerned.  Pages that appear in the carousel can also appear in the regular non-AMP search results.

John Mueller was asked about AMP pages in this week’s Webmaster Office Hours, and specifically whether results could appear in both the AMP carousel and the regular search results, or if Google would choose only one to display.

I believe at the moment it doesn’t, I believe we would show it in both places but that’s probably something that can change over time.  Where if we see that we need to de-duplicate the results better, then maybe at some point we will say if it is ranking up here, we will filter it out down there.

We also researched it and confirmed that sites can currently appear in both the carousel and the organic search results. In this example, the article appears in AMP version in the carousel – in this one, it happened to be last in the carousel.  But it also appeared first in the organic search results after the mobile version of the knowledge panel, as the second organic search result overall.

However, Google could change this at any time, something that John Mueller confirmed.  But currently, your page can still appear on the organic search results, even if it appears in the AMP carousel.

It also shows an interesting perspective on how the AMP carousels rank AMP results, with the second organic result not showing up in the AMP carousel until the very end.
