Google Adds “About This Result” to Featured Snippets

Google has made a slight update to the appearance of featured snippets in the search results.  They have added a new “About this result” directly below the featured snippet, next to the link that says “Feedback.”

Here is how it appears in the search results.

This seems to be a widespread change, as it isn’t restricted to a few browser sessions.

When a searcher clicks on the “About this result” link, they are taken to the Google Search Console support page on Featured Snippets in Search.

When visiting that page, you might also notice that there is an option to opt out of featured snippets by using the nosnippet tag. But be warned, doing this will remove all the snippets in the search results for the page it is used on, meaning your regular non-featured snippet results would also have no descriptions, something that tends to dramatically plunge CTRs.

The usual feedback link still brings up a popup to leave feedback and provide comments to Google.

It isn’t clear why they have added this now.  We did see a jump in the percentage of featured snippets earlier this month, but it seems more coincidental than deliberate.

The following two tabs change content below.
