Google Testing Alert to Inform Searchers That AMP Means Fast

Google is testing a way to help searchers understand what exactly an AMP result is.  They are testing a notification that shows underneath an AMP result, alerting the searcher that an AMP page is a really fast web page.

Here is how it looks:

It says “AMP delivers a lightning-fast experience” and can be closed by tapping the X.

Many have questioned whether the average searcher knows what an AMP page really is, despite the fact it does have the AMP lightning bolt icon at the start.

Case in point, for searchers that do a search for “what is amp” after seeing it, the featured snippet is a pretty technical explanation, and would be difficult for someone who isnot a techy to understand.

The featured snippet, while accurate, is definitely targeting a site owner or developer and not an average searcher wondering what AMP is and what the AMP note means in the search results.

It will be interesting to watch and see what other methods Google uses to alert searchers to AMP in the search results.
