Google Confirms Third Party Blocked Resources Not Problematic

Ever since Google sent out the notice to many webmasters that they are blocking javascript and CSS from being crawled, it has been a priority for many to unblock these resources.  But one thing keeps coming up – the alerts for third party resources in Google Search Console.

While Gary Illyes from Google commented about third party blocked resources not being an issue back at SMX West, the official documentation on the Google Search Console pages still led to some confusion because it advises webmasters to either ask third-party webmasters to unblock resources or consider removing dependency from the site.

Move on to hosts that you don’t own, and if the resources have a strong visual impact, either contact the webmaster of those sites to ask them to consider unblocking the resource to Googlebot, or consider removing your page’s dependency on that resource.

The question came up in the Google Webmaster Help forum and Zineb Ait Bahajji, a Google Webmaster Trends Analyst confirmed that third party resources are not problematic.

Bonjour,
Je confirme ce que Niko a dit plus haut: ces fichiers ne sont pas problématiques car ce sont des ressources hébergées sur des sites tiers.
Le plus important est de débloquer les ressources hébergées sur votre domaine.
Cheers,
Zineb
For those not well versed in French, the translation:
Hello,
I confirm that Niko said earlier: these files are not problematic because they are resources hosted on third party sites.
The most important is to unlock resources hosted on your domain.
Cheers,
Zineb

Of course, many webmasters find it amusing that many of the warnings stem from Google blocking resources on many of the sites in question, such as the Google AdSense javascript and Google Maps.

But it is additional confirmation that Google does not consider blocked third party resources an issue, but to continue unblocking resources hosted in their own domain.
