Google Home Service Ads & Local 3-Pack on Same Results Page

For those who have been concerned about Google’s new Home Service ads replacing the local 3-pack for the same search, it seems that Google will show both for the same search.

Mike Blumenthal (via David Rodecker of Local Splash) noticed that for some searches that triggered a Home Service ad unit, Google was also displaying the regular 3-pack as well.

Here are some screenshots:

While Google can always change how they handle local searches where a Home Service ad is triggered, it is good news for those who either don’t want to advertise in the Home Service ads or aren’t one of the ones displayed on the search results page.

They do seem to show for neighborhood searches only, and not the more general “San Francisco” searches, meaning Google seems to be leaning more towards providing searchers with hyper local results.

It is also worth noting that Google still does not seem to be showing AdWords ads above the Home Service ads, so it doesn’t seem that there is a way for an advertiser to get in AdWords ads above.  Google AdWords is still showing ads on the right sidebar like usual.

The only downside is that it does push regular organic searches even lower on the page, so if you aren’t in the regular 3-pack, your visibility will be reduced further.
