Google Allows Only 10 Submit URLs & Direct-Links Crawls Per Month

Do you use Google’s Fetch as Googlebot in Google Search Console, then submit it to the index?  Google has changed the limits on submissions via the “submit this URL and it’s direct-linked pages”.

But most significantly, this is applying to all sites on a Google Search Console account, so this change isn’t on a per site basis.  So those with many sites in Search Console will need to be especially aware of this restriction, as quotas could quickly be used up.

When you fetch a URL via Google Search Console’s “Fetch as Google” tool, it now has the new limit shown.  Once you fetch it and choose to submit to index, it now shows “This option recrawls the URL above and its direct-linked pages.  You have 10 submissions remaining of your 10 monthly quota for this choice.”

The option for submitting just a single URL has a 500 URL limit per month.

Both options have the “I’m not a robot” CAPTCHA.

John Mueller from Google confirmed the new change to submitting a URL and it’s direct links is limited due to abuse.  He also says that this is a temporary measure to protect Google, so we could see this change again in the future.

For agencies this could have a serious impact when they are dealing with multiple client sites who are rewriting URLs or launching new sites or site designs.  And especially if some within the agency aren’t paying attention to the new limits, it could hit the limit rather quickly.

It also means people will want to make use more of the submitting individual URLs option, if they are testing things like blocked resources or other crawl errors, before using the submit entire site option.
