Google is Testing New Family Breadcrumb Knowledge Graph

Google is testing a brand new search knowledge graph which not only has detailed information but also shows breadcrumbs on the search result page.

This was spotted by Dan Barker. When doing a search for someone with a famous parent, it showed Owen King as a child of author Stephen King, and also showed the other children of Stephen King as well.  Beneath it stated “Owen King is Stephen King’s son.”

This search is especially interesting because Owen King is a well known author in his own right, and not simply known for being the son of Owen King (which arguably some offspring of famous parents are).

Here is another one for a branch of the Hilton family.

The images used as the thumbnail seem to be related to the first Google image result.

It does appear to be a limited test at this time.  It isn’t the first time we have seen breadcrumbs, as it has been shown in local search carousels before.  But it will be worth watching if this type of knowledge graph goes widespread and for different kinds of searches besides family members.
