Google Testing New Timeline Knowledge Graph

This just might be the craziest looking knowledge graph Google has created yet – an enormous timeline that side-scrolls to highlight important dates and events.  The timeline was discovered by Florian Kiersch who posted screenshots and video on his Google+ page.

Here is what the timeline looks like before anything is expanded.

You can see it has bars on the timeline which can be moused-over to expand.

When expanded, it draws information directly from Wikipedia.

You can also click on any of the bars, and it will then take you to a Google search result page for that person or event, while still leaving the timeline open at the top of the search results.

There are also other timeline for World War 1.

This is a limited test at this time, as not many people seem to be seeing it.  It could be very useful for students who are researching historical events to be able to see an interactive timeline to see exactly how things happened chronologically.
