Google Launches Brand New Logo & Branding

Hot on the heels of Google creating parent company Alphabet, Google has now released a new logo they feel better reflects the many facets and areas of Google.

The Google still uses the same familiar color scheme that users know and love, but with a brand new typeface to go with it.

Here is the animated version of the logo which shows how the logo translates between regular logo, the icon logo that many mobile users are familiar with, and the new version of the “G” icon.

With the change, the blue “G” icon is being retired and is replaced with the multi-colored G with all the colors of the Google logo.

And the new mic icon that mobile users are familiar with, but in a Google colorized version instead of the greyscale one.

It is also the first major change to Google since new CEO Sundar Pichai took over the CEO position.  It is definitely a way to signal the change in Google in the post-Alphabet phase. Pichai also posted about the change on Google+ here.

Google has said their logo will be changing across the company, but it seems that Google Search is the only one to change for now.  We will likely see the roll out continue across other services such as Gmail, Maps and even Google Search Console now that the new logo announcement has gone live.

This isn’t the first time we’ve changed our look and it probably won’t be the last, but we think today’s update is a great reflection of all the ways Google works for you across Search, Maps, Gmail, Chrome and many others. We think we’ve taken the best of Google (simple, uncluttered, colorful, friendly), and recast it not just for the Google of today, but for the Google of the future.
