Google to Close the Old Google Webmaster Tools API on April 20, 2015

Just a reminder if you are still using the old Google Webmaster Tools API that Google will be turning it off on April 20, 2015

The reason that the old API will be ending is due to ClientLogin shutdown happening the same day – all applications using older APIs with it will all stop working that day.  This is due to Google’s tighter security protocols no longer wanting password-only authentication, which ClientLogin uses, as opposed to the more secure OAuth 2.0.

There is already a newer Google Webmaster Tools API in place that features mostly the same data – with the notable exception of keywords and messages, one of the main reasons people are still using the older API, and it is not clear if either of those will be moving to the new one when the old one closes, but many people feel that this is unlikely.

For more information on the new API, Google released a blog post last year with details about the new one.
