Accelerated Mobile Pages – AMP – Coming to Google Search in Early 2016

At State of Search last week, Gary Illyes from Google talked about the importance of AMP – Accelerated Mobile Pages and how it would become more important in 2016.  Now Google has announced that AMP pages are coming to Google Search next year.

Google doesn’t give a specific date, other than “early next year,” but with Google pushing this technology to make web browsing faster for mobile users, especially those on slower connections, the wait won’t be long.

Google initially announced the open source project last month and released technical specifications and guidelines on GitHub.

Another thing that is interesting to note is that this blog post from Google was released on a new subdomain on WordPress.com instead of the usual .Blogspot.com blog, where their initial AMP blog post was announced.  We do know that Google is working with WordPress to support AMP though, which is huge considering how much of the web is powered by WordPress now.
