Using Emojis in Google’s Local Pack & Knowledge Panel

Many webmasters have used (and abused) emojis within Google’s search results, and it seems there is a new way for using them in the Google search results, this time within both the local pack, map results and local knowledge panel.

First, this is how it looks in the local knowledge panel, in Chrome:

And in Firefox, which isn’t as eye catching since it is black only:

Looking at it on mobile, it looks much more eye catching.

And in the local 3 pack:

And the map view:

It is not clear if this is the only emoji that can be used in the local Google My Business business name, or if it really is “allowed” or not.  But this is the only one I have seen used as well as the only specific coffee shop I have seen using it.

Google has a long history with webmasters using emojis and Google responding by removing them.  They have come and gone from the organic search results, product listing ads, and AdWords search ads, but they all eventually get disabled.  So this one could be disabled.
