While we have seen both Google and Bing add schema information for apps in the search results, such as the price or mobile OS, Bing is taking this a step further. Bing is now including the file size of downloads, as well as the number of downloads, in their search results.
Here is an example in the search results for a piece of PC software.
Also notable is the fact that the keywords highlighted were NOT included in the search. Instead, Bing seemed to be highlighting the title of the software in the search results instead.
They are not including size and download information for other results where it would be very useful. For example, WordPress plugins only include the ratings information and the price. It would definitely have been useful to include at least the number of downloads for WordPress plugins or themes in the search results, since they clearly have the ability to display it in the search results.
By comparison, Google only offers ratings information and the platform (ie. PC or Mac) information for software downloads in their search results.
I like seeing download information – so long as it is legitimate of course – because it does give you a bit of insight into how popular and potentially how trouble-free a piece of software is.
