Google is making a new change to their movie knowledge panels. Google is asking searchers to add tags related to the movie they search for, at the bottom of the movie knowledge panel on mobile.
Paul Shapiro spotted the test.
When you click to vote for tags, it brings up a pop over to tag the movie.
The tags seem more generic, rather than ones they have narrowed down specific to the movie searched for. It also allows the searcher to suggest a new tag, which would presumably be verified before going live.
Shapiro noted that he is getting it for every movie searched for, so it isn’t restricted to older movies (such as in the screenshot) which may have less information online about them.

It isn’t clear how they will be using the tags. For some of them in the example, such as “gripping” or “tearjerker”, could be used to power movie related carousels for movies related to a specific tag, such as “View more gripping movies” or “View tearjerker movies.” However, it isn’t likely they’d use a tag such as “unconvincing” for a carousel.
This appears to be a limited test, as I am unable to replicate it.
