google search analytics more daysOne of the biggest requests that many SEOs have is to have more days worth of data in Search Analytics.  While there are tools designed to download the data every X number of weeks, having the data within Search Console would be much more optimal for many SEOs.

@Jonny_J_ we are thinking about it, but no big update right now.

Periodically a Googler will comment about it, so it is good to know that it is something that is still on the table for

Many SEOs would love to have a year’s worth of data for seasonality reasons, especially since keyword data is no longer available in Google Analytics since it went (not provided).  Being able to look at the best performing keywords from the previous year’s holiday, whether it is Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Black Friday or even events such as the Super Bowl would be amazing for many SEOs.

Even comparing Year over Year data for tracking business and SEO performance would be great.

She also followed up looking for feedback about what SEOs and businesses would use an increased in Search Analytics data for.

@Jonny_J_ question for you: what would you do exactly with 120 days of data or more? How would you use it? What dimensions would u look at?

— Zineb Ait (@Missiz_Z) February 16, 2016

Personally, I would love to see this expanded to a year.  Alternatively it would be nice to see Google perhaps launch a tool that would allow users to export it to a similar interface, rather than just the straight CSV file, since many don’t know how to do much with that file aside from opening it and looking.

There are some third party tools that do more in depth things with the Search Analytics data, but many of them are paid, and they still require the user to download the data through Search Analytics (or grant permission).  And of course, it wouldn’t work with any kind of historical data.

So it is good news that it is still something Google is considering doing, there doesn’t seem to be any timeline for if or when webmasters could see something updated with it.

UPDATE: Zineb is now requesting feedback on what webmasters would use the data for, using the hashtag #moredataSAN

Hey GSC users, if you had more than 90 days of data in Search Analytics, how would you use that? please use #moredataSAN in your replies.

@Missiz_Z thanks @glenngabe @jenstar @Marie_Haynes for starting this very interesting discussion today 🙂
