Google Adds Content Carousel to Mobile Search Results

google content carouselGoogle is testing out a new content carousel to show additional content results from a website.  These results were showing up Thursday AM in the Google search results for mobile.

Normally sites are restricted to two pages in the search results (outside of sitelinks and additional results outside the “ten blue links” such as image or news results).  But this allows Google to easily show additional article results from a website that could be completely relevant to the search results but without dominating them with one site.

They can also show up for multiple sites in the same search query, when the results are very relevant.

Here are some examples.

content carousel 1content carousel 2content carousel 3content carousel 4All of these were displayed within the same search query, so Google is definitely testing putting greater emphasis on not only sites with additional content, but also with great visual imagery to show for the article as well.

All of the results are also very new, including a couple that would appear under an overall “in the news” heading.  So Google appears to be adding them not just for popular searches, but also for trending and relevant content from each of the sites that features one.

I like the option these give to easily see additional content results from a single site, especially for search terms that are very competitive and show multiple highly relevant sites to pull from.

Thank you to Kristine Schachinger who shared the images with me.

I wonder if the feature is different from this?

Similar idea but this implementation is definitely new. It also appeared for every result on the page, not just a single one.
